This book was full of good information on TONS of restaurants, but was hard to use because of its organization – by district. Obviously, this is probably the best way to organize this kind of book, but when traveling I would rather say I’m on Rue Cler, where can I find a good restaurant? Not I’m in the 7th arr. and I have 20 different places in 20 different parts of the arr. which to hunt down? We ended up ‘donating’ the book to the apartment we rented because we found it rather useless. Also, all of the restaurants in the book were expensive, so the book wasn’t good for a couple on a budget.

The book is good for suggestions on restaurants, but I am not sure with all the advise out there on restaurants. It is helpful breaking down where all the restaurants are located and I will bring it with me to Paris

Paris has so many good restaurants besides the big three or two stars Michelin rated restaurants. This book will tell you all about the small places according to the arrondisment number which is very useful since traffic is always so bad all the time in Paris. You can read about the menu and the owners of these small places that have been in business for many years. These are places that local French people would frequent and you can do the same without knowing them. Some beautiful and excellent places are brasseries, bistros, and quaint cafe that you would want instead of just 4 course meals at big places. However, do not misss great places like Taillevent or Lassere…if you can afford them. Taillevent is still my favorite restaurant in the world and you have to try once in your life. This book also tells you about the special butchers and dessert places that specialize in certain items such as where the best macaroons are sold or the best chocolate stores or where to get Jamon de Iberica and more………….Bon voyage and Bonne appetit!

Although 2 years old, the Pudlo Paris 2007-2008 is still the most current edition and suffices well in reviewing Paris restaurants. Most restaurants I was interested in were in the book and the reviews give the necessary details as well as hints at the decor and type of food offered. I would recommend this book, although I suspect that the 2009-2010 edition will be out sometime in the near future.

A good guide if it is up to date- but 2007-2008 is naturally lagging the dynamic Paris food world. Pudlo is available for 2009 in french. Chefs move, restaurants change hands- often without changing names- quality goes up and down so a reference that is one year behind is far behind. Better to read restaurant reviews if you want to know what is worth investing in today. And you should note that to actually use this book you need a map (if you’re not a Parisian)-there isn’t one in the book- in order to find out where the restaurants are located.
